The Len Harvell Exhibition

For more than 50 years Len Harvell recorded most of what happened in Eastleigh as a well known press photographer for the then Eastleigh Weekly News.

To commemorate his unique record of Eastleigh life during the latter half of the last Century, an exhibition of his work was opened last week at The Pavilion on the Park. On display are more than 50 black and white press photographs from the tens of thousands of images Len took during this time. These include one of the earliest dated 1959, major Civic occasions, visits by Royalty and well known celebrities, community events and amateur dramatic productions.

The Mayor of Eastleigh Councillor Pamela Holden-Brown joined guests at the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition is funded by the Gannet Foundation and Eastleigh Youth Trust as part of the Nightingale estate’s Diamond anniversary. Visitors can view the foyer exhibition whenever the building is open, to check times email info@paviliononthepark.org or telephone 02380 612710.

Guests who attended the opening of The Len Harvell photographic Exhibition with Len sat holding the roll of photo negative he had just cut to open the Pavilion on the Park exhibition.

The Concorde’s Cole Mathieson and veteran Eastleigh Councillor Godfrey Olson OBE, both previously trustees of the Trust, share memories of a photograph taken by Len Harvell displayed at the Pavilion on the Park in celebration of Len Harvell’s photographic career.
